What is PRP?

To help understand platelet-rich plasma, it’s first helpful to understand the main component of this solution: platelets. Platelets are one of the elements in your blood. Whenever you’re injured, your body directs platelets to the area. They help your blood clot and bring growth factors to the area, fueling regeneration. 

PRP is a solution that Dr. Sandhu derives from your blood. She first takes an incredibly small sample of your blood, then places it in a centrifuge. Using the centrifuge, she separates the platelets from the other components of your blood, leaving her with PRP. 

What is PRP treatment?

Using that PRP, she can direct platelets into your skin, triggering regeneration and rejuvenating the appearance of your skin. 

To allow the PRP to penetrate deeply, Dr. Sandhu prepares your skin by microneedling it. During microneedling, she moves a device over the surface of your skin that makes tiny pinpricks in your skin’s surface. On its own, microneedling is an effective skin treatment because it jumpstarts your body’s healing processes and triggers the production of collagen, the protein that keeps your skin even and elastic. But when combined with PRP, it’s especially effective.

The microneedling creates tiny channels in your skin. When Dr. Sandhu applies the PRP after microneedling, the platelets travel through these channels into the deeper layers of your skin, delivering optimal results.
