WHAT IS JUVEDERM?
Juvederm, Juvederm ultra plus and Voluma are smooth consistency gels made of hyaluronic acid-a naturally occurring acid in our skin that helps in adding volume and hydration to our skin. It is injected under the skin, in some cases next to the bone to add volume which you have lost due to the natural aging process.
HOW DOES JUVEDERM WORK?
Juvederm is injected nor surgically. it is injected in the skin or under the skin next to the bone depending upon the area being injected and the product being injected with a fine cannula or needle. It augments the volume lost in the soft tissues of the skin and the deeper layers and thus takes care of the folds and the wrinkles. They are usually injected in the mid face, in the cheeks, temples and under the eyes to take care of the prominent naso-labial folds, hollow under the eyes hollows in the temples giving a nonsurgical “facelift”. It can also be injected to correct deep acne scars, give a brow lift, contour the angle of the jaw, augment the lips making them look fuller and taking care of the drooping corners of the mouth.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A TREATMENT OF JUVEDERM
When you come for a treatment of Juvederm, a brief health history is taken including any medications you may be taking and any allergies you may have, informed consent is given and your pretreatment photograph is taken. Assessment of your face is done and expected results and your expectations are discussed with you. Dental block are given to numb the area where the injection is going to be performed. The area where the injection is going to be done is cleaned with alcohol. Injection is done which is virtually painless as the collagen filler has local anesthesia incorporated in it. After the injection is done it is molded by gently molding the gel in the injected area.
HOW LONG DOES JUVEDERM LAST?
Juvederm Ultra lasts for six months to nine months.
Juvederm Ultra Plus last up to one year.
Juvederm Voluma last up to two years.
HOW MANY SYRINGES WILL I NEED FOR JUVEDERM?
The amount injected depends upon the defect that is present. To get an optimum results three to four syringes may be needed. in some cases up to six to seven syringes may be needed.
Addition of Botox at the same time can augment the results by taking care of the fine movable lines in your face.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF JUVEDERM?
Side effects are mild to moderate in nature and short lasting. The most common side effects include but are not limited to temporary injection site redness, bruising, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, itching, infection and discoloration. In rare cases injection can be made into a blood vessel leading to skin necrosis.
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER THE JUVEDERM INJECTION?
In the first twenty four hours after the injection one should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure or heat and consumption of alcoholic beverages to help decrease the risk of swelling, redness or itching at the injection site.
Collagen fillers should not be used if you have severe allergies, marked by a history of anaphylaxis, allergies to Gram-positive proteins and if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
