FAQs About PDO Thread Lifts

There are many medical procedures you can have to take years off of your face, from face-lifts to eyelid surgery to jowl tightening, but not everyone is ready to go under the scalpel to get a younger appearance. Fortunately, there are other, less invasive options that can give you fantastic looking results without surgical intervention.

At New Image Medical Spa in Fremont, California, Dr. Surinder Sandhu and her team offer PDO thread lifts using the NovaThread lift treatment system. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions about PDO thread lifts, along with our answers.

What is a PDO thread lift?

Dissolvable sutures made of polydioxanone (PDO) allow us to create the effect of a face-lift without surgery. A PDO thread lift starts with these sutures being injected into various points on your face.

The sutures have tiny barbs that anchor themselves under your skin. When we pull the injected threads tight, the barbs hold fast, and your facial skin is pulled tighter, eliminating the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How do NovaThreads work?

Dr. Sandhu uses NovaThreads because not only do they offer immediate results, tightening and firming up your facial skin where it formerly was sagging and wrinkling, but also because they promote long-lasting results. It’s the ideal PDO lift option

Skin wrinkling and sagging is caused by loss of collagen and elastin, the proteins that support your skin and keep your face looking full and fresh. NovaThreads trigger production of these proteins, so as the threads dissolve away, your own body takes over the task of freshening your face so it looks more youthful.

Am I a good candidate for a PDO thread lift?

As long as you’ve never had a surgical face-lift, and you don’t have a history of bad reactions to facial injections, you’re probably a good candidate for NovaThread lifts. Dr. Sandhu looks over your medical history and asks you about medications before scheduling your procedure.

Are NovaThreads safe?

NovaThreads use polydioxanone dissolvable sutures that are generally considered safe for use in surgery, so, overall, barbed PDO sutures are considered a very safe way to achieve facial lifts.

If you have a history of issues with dissolvable sutures not completely dissolving, or a bad reaction to PDO sutures, talk with Dr. Sandhu about your concerns, as a PDO lift might not be best for you.

How long will the results from my PDO thread lift last?

Results from a PDO lift are temporary, typically lasting between one and three years. Since the sutures dissolve, you can have the procedure repeated at that time, However, you’ll probably also see longer-lasting results due to the regeneration of collagen and elastin that promote natural rejuvenation and the restoration of a youthful look.
